Obituary for Gerard Bradshaw

Gerard Joseph Bradshaw (Gerry), peacefully made his passage onward in the comfort of his own home on May 12, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Tipperary, Ireland to Anne and Joseph Bradshaw, he was a wonderful son, husband, father, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and grandfather. A hurler, custom cabinet maker, home builder, electrician, mason and plumber, there was not a trade he didn’t master.

He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his wife Mary. He is survived by his son Joseph and wife Colleen, his son Maurice and wife Karen and his daughter Marie and husband Tom.

“Pop Pop” will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Kyle, Michael, Christine, Christopher, Gavin, Katherine, Katie and Harry as well as his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Nellie (Mick) and his brothers Patrick (Ruth), William (Maura), Joseph (Joan) and John.

Gerry, with his brothers, John and Joe, and his first cousins, Denis and Peter Ryan, immigrated to the United States where they could be found at the Irish dances in City Center or at hurling matches in Gaelic Park in New York. He met his beloved wife, Mary, in New York, and they were married for 61 years. Together they raised their children in Emerson, New Jersey, and subsequently retired at the Jersey Shore.

The family expresses their appreciation for the care and kindness shown by the staff at the Visiting Nurse Association Health & Hospice. The Funeral Mass and interment will be private and can be viewed via livestream at https://venue.streamspot.com/93d8764d on Monday, May 17th at 9:00 am. The family intends to host a memorial celebration in the future.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mill Hill Missionaries, 222 West Hartsdale Avenue, Hartsdale NY 10530-1667 or to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund at https://curealz.org/.
