Obituary for Gloria Skea (Jago)

Gloria P. Skea, 88, of Spring Lake Heights, died peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove, NJ, surrounded by her family. Gloria was born in Jersey City, NJ on July 27th, 1932 to the late Alfred J. Jago and Mary Fallon Jago. Gloria was a parishioner of her beloved St. Aloysius Church, attending both grammar and high schools there, and where she would remain an active parishioner for over 70 years. On September 24, 1955, 65 years prior to the day of her passing, Gloria married the late Walter H. Skea, Jr., the father of their six children.

A devout Catholic, Gloria was committed to a life of service in the Church. At St. Aloysius, she became a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Rosary Society, and was ultimately honored as a Centennial Aloysian for her years of dedicated service to the parish. Gloria volunteered at numerous Catholic organizations, including the St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Rose Church CCD, and St. Rose Church in Belmar, NJ. Professionally, Gloria worked as the head administrator at Ferris High School for the Jersey City Board of Education until her retirement after 22 years of service.

Fun-loving and blessed with a quick wit and a great voice, a song or a good story were never far off for Gloria. She relished the good times with family and friends and was proud of her faith and Irish heritage.

Gloria was predeceased by her brother Robert Jago and sister-in-law Patricia Jago. Surviving are her beloved children, Michael Skea (Maureen) of Spring Lake Heights, Patricia Skea of Belmar, Maureen Skea of Spring Lake Heights, Robert Skea (Lori) of Manasquan, Martin Skea (Christopher) of Washington, DC, Beth Sarre (Greg) of Wall, NJ, a brother, Alfred Jago and sister-in-law Helen Jago of Toms River, NJ. She also leaves behind her nine cherished grandchildren: Moira, Ryan & Matthew Skea, all of Spring Lake Heights; Conor, Evan, Kelly & Daniel Skea, all of Manasquan; and Andrew and Emily Sarre of Wall.
