Obituary for Henry Joseph Foerst Jr.

Henry J. Foerst, Jr. (Harry), 91, passed peacefully on March 21, 2021. Henry was born in Bayonne NJ on August 4, 1929 and became a 52-year resident of Sea Girt and communicant of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. He attended Wagner College and received a master’s degree in education administration from Seton Hall University.

Henry proudly served his country in the Korean War as a member of the United States Marine Corps and retired as a Captain. He was a member of the Belmar lifeguard crew working under the direction of his good friend Howard Roland. He joined the Neptune School system in the 1950’s and served as principal of Shark River Hills School for over 25 years. He spoke glowingly of the teachers, support staff, administration, students and parents that he helped support.

Henry enjoyed the company of his neighbors, close bonds with his in laws and joyous times with friends. He traveled the world and was in awe of the museums, landmarks, people and places that he came across. He enjoyed tennis and golf and found great irony in his propensity to hit holes-in-one. He loved to read and made regular visits to the Sea Girt Library.

He was predeceased by his son James Foerst, mother Mary (née Clarke), father Henry Foerst and sister Anne Marie Foerst.

He is survived by his adored wife Helen (née Pizappi) Foerst of 64 years and two of three sons: Michael and wife Jena of Palm Harbor Florida and Drew and wife Christina of Sea Girt, a daughter-in-law, Joyce of Fort Pierce Florida, granddaughters Stacy and Lara (Glenn), and grandsons Michael, James, Matthew, Joseph and Andrew. He is also survived by his cherished sister Mary Beth Hall. Time spent with family was his greatest joy.
