Ferrante
J. Arthur Ferrante, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Sea Girt, NJ, on Thursday, September 29, 2022. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Joseph A. and Florence A. (Meehan) Ferrante. He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 61 years, Janet A. Ferrante. Surviving are his children, Christopher Ferrante and his wife Leigh; Eileen Yates and her husband Jay; and Carol Walsh and her husband Tim; and his beloved grandchildren, Julia and Joseph Ferrante; Daniel Yates and Rachel Kitslaar and her husband Tim; and Margot and Natalie Walsh. He leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
Art spent the majority of his professional career with Marriott International in Bethesda, MD, joining their Architecture and Construction department in 1963, and retiring in 1991 as Vice President of Hotel Design. His first assignment was to work on Marriott’s fifth hotel, a 500-room property in Atlanta, GA. Ultimately, his career led him to projects around the world including London, Vienna, Cairo, Paris, Bermuda, and Hong Kong. His career was a testament to his hard work, respect and curiosity of other cultures, and ability to forge relationships.
He and Janet spent 25 years in Vienna, VA raising their family, before retiring to Sea Girt. Art enjoyed gathering with family and friends, attending sporting events and the theater, going on walking tours with Janet, and getting out on the golf course. Throughout his life, Art was an active volunteer for numerous groups including the Washington International Center, Sea Girt Appeal, Mercy Center and Sisters Academy, and St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Despite his travel schedule, he was actively engaged in his children’s activities growing up, including Cardinal Hill Swim Club and the Vienna Youth basketball program.
Visiting hours will be Friday, November 4, 2022, from 2 to 6 pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Route 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 9:30 am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 215 Crescent Pkwy., Sea Girt, NJ.
