Obituary for James A. Boozan MD

Dr. James Aloysius Boozan, a beloved father, husband, and doctor, passed into Eternal Life on January 25th 2021, at the hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Born on July 17th 1959, Jim was raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he was the youngest son of Dr. Charles W. and Mona (Meehan) Boozan.

Known as “Jamer” by family and close friends, he graduated from The Pingry School where he played soccer and lacrosse. He was described as a gifted student and a fierce competitor. Jim went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and continued his family’s legacy of becoming a physician. Dr. Boozan received his medical doctorate degree from The Ohio State University School of Medicine. After a surgical internship at Lenox Hill Hospital and New York University in Manhattan, he completed his residency training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at St. Louis University Medical Center. Thereafter, he completed a one year fellowship of advanced training in head and neck oncologic surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

In 1993, Dr. Boozan opened his private practice in Lawrenceville, NJ, where he proudly practiced as a Board-Certified Otolaryngologist until his passing. Dr. Boozan was on staff with Capital Health Systems at Hopewell, and during his career, he was the Chief of the Otolaryngology Department for many years. Dr. Boozan holds membership in the American Academy of Otolaryngology, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His compassion and generosity in medicine made him the special doctor that he will always be known for by his patients and colleagues.

Jim resided in Pennington, NJ, with his family, and in Sea Girt, NJ, where he also spent his childhood summers and where he met his wife, Kathleen Dougherty. He was a devoted and wonderful father to his children, Jay and Hope Boozan. Jim loved the New York Giants, Ohio State football, and the sports memorabilia that came along with it, but above everything, he loved his wife and kids.

In his free time, Jim could be found playing golf, tennis, and paddle. Jim was a parishioner at Saint James Catholic Church, Pennington, NJ; a member of the Bedens Brook Club, Skillman, NJ; a member of the Tiger Inn Eating Club of Princeton University; a member of the Princeton Skating Club, Princeton, NJ; a member of the Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club, Spring Lake, NJ.

Jim is also survived by his two brothers, William C. Boozan, M.D., and John M. Boozan, M.D., along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
