Obituary for James Thomas Hill Jr.

James Thomas Hill Jr. 67 passed away at his home Friday February 5, 2021 Jim was born May 14, 1953 in Neptune, NJ. Jim was a life-long resident of the Spring Lakes Heights area.

Jim is predeceased by his parents James Thomas Hill Sr. South Plainfield, NJ Jane Amelia (Mills), Hill, Cranford, NJ brother John Hill and sister Jane Louise Post (Hill). He is survived by his brothers Dennis Hill (Lucille) Falls, PA and Robert Hill (Mary) Woodbridge, CT. Uncle Jim is also survived by (8) Nieces and Nephews: William C. Post Jr., Mark D. Repsher, Stephanie R. Vietz, Melissa S. Blanton, Michael P. Hill, Justin J. Hill, Alexandra J. Hill and Christine M. Hill.

Jim retired in 2012 after serving 25 years as a New Jersey State Deputy Attorney General. As Deputy Attorney General, he represented the New Jersey Department of Environment (DEP) and the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) where he successfully represented the state in many prominent and highly visible cases.

Before joining the New Jersey DEP and DHS, Jim had seven years of experience as a radio news broadcaster, and news director in various New Jersey/Philadelphia media markets.

Jim received a Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law, and a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work. He also received a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications from Wheaton College. He also supplemented his graduate work at Florida State in Mass Communications, Wesley Theological Seminary in Public Policy & Ethics and Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University in International Politics.

Jim completed 19 Marathons across the US which he trained for by running on the boardwalks of the New Jersey Shore. His best was in Duluth, MN on June 17, 1995 with a time of 3:17:51. Of course as an Irishman his favorite marathon to run in was the Shamrock in Virginia Beach, VA that he ran in five times.
Jim was a trivia buff anything to do with presidents and sports. He was a passionate fan of the New York Jets being a season ticket holder for many years. James enjoyed America’s past time following the New York Mets. Jim's other favorite teams were the New York Knicks, New York Rangers and Florida State Football as an alumni.

There will be a socially-distanced viewing and service on Thursday February 11, 2021 from 11AM until the time of the Funeral Ceremony at 12:30PM at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Rd, Wall Township, NJ 07719. A burial will immediately follow at St. Anne's Cemetery 1610 Allenwood Rd, Wall Township, NJ 07719.
