Obituary for Jane E. Newton (Helman)

Jane E. Newton, 103, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019.
Mrs. Newton was born in Ohio and raised in Florida, before coming to the Jersey Shore as a young woman. She lived in Ocean Grove and Sea Girt Estates, Wall, before moving to Point Pleasant many years ago. She wintered in Cape Coral, Florida for many years. She and her late husband owned and operated Foodtown supermarkets in Point Pleasant and Neptune for many years, before retiring. She was a longtime member of Manasquan United Methodist Church. An avid gardener, Jane was also a member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed quilting, traveling and many other activities.
Mrs. Newton was predeceased by her beloved husband, Clifford G. Newton, in 1970, and by her son, William, in 1992. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Elizabeth Jane and Howard Height III, Point Pleasant, Dorothy A. Stanley (the late James), Point Pleasant, and Ronald and Tara Newton, of West Virginia. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, from 3-7 PM. The service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at 10 AM, followed by burial at Atlanticview Cemetery, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manasquan United Methodist Church, 23 Church St., Manasquan, 08736.
