Obituary for Jean Eleanor Fastenau (Frankel )

Jean Eleanor Frankel Fastenau, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born, raised, and lived on Long Island, NY until 1997 when she moved to Wall Township, NJ. She attended Freeport Public Schools, Eastman Secretarial School, and Hofstra University where she was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. She was predeceased by her parents, Grace Eleanor Brown Frankel and Fredrick George Frankel and a brother, Fredrick Jr.

Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years John Michael Fastenau. She was the loving mother of daughter Jeanette Hartmann and her husband Martin of Garden City, NY, and son John Jr. and his wife Susan of Loveladies, NJ. She was the cherished grandmother of John III, Sarah Grace Fastenau, James Ryan Fastenau, and Eric Robert Hartmann.

She worked for Equitable Life Insurance in Manhattan, NY and later opened her own sewing center, “A Stitch”, in Garden City, NY. She was an active member of the Cathedral of Incarnation in Garden City until moving to New Jersey.

A Memorial Visitation will take place on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 2-5 p.m. with a Memorial Service to be held at 4:30 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall Township, NJ. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 12th at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Incarnation, Garden City, NY followed by the burial at Pinelawn Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
