Joan Flynn McCormick, 90, of Howell, formally of Wall, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 5, 2021, surrounded by her family. Born in Pittson, PA, daughter of the late Francis and Lucy Flynn, she was a 1948 graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School. Married in 1956 to her high school sweetheart, Michael McCormick, she moved with her husband to New Jersey in 1957 to begin her life at the Jersey Shore. She created a loving home for her children as well as provided the home base for the neighborhood kids. After raising her children, she became a late life, career woman, first in real estate and then as administrative assistant in the CECOM building at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown, retiring in 1998. Joan delighted in all events involving family. She never missed any of her children’s baseball, basketball, soccer or cheerleading events and piano recitals. She was their number one fan and continued her support of celebration in all events of her grandchildren. In her later years, she enjoyed travel, but her favorite vacations were at Long Beach Island with family. She enjoyed a good meal, an occasional high ball (no ice), and anything smothered in butter.
Joan was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of 63 years, Michael J. McCormick; her sister, Grace Kelly; her nephew, James Fox, and her niece, Sharon Kelly.
Surviving are her daughters, Mary B. DeFilippis and her husband, Mario; Marianne McCormick; her son, Michael P. McCormick and his wife Margie; sister and best friend, Lucille Fox; and her loving nieces and nephew, Mary Fox-Solujich, Robert Fox, Kathleen Fox-Smith, Kathy Kelly, and Maureen DeGrose; ten grandchildren, Michael and his wife Brighid, Kevin and his wife Shannon, Kristin, Paul, Meghan, Ryan, Kerianne, Brendan, Sarah and her husband Arsenio, and Lauren and her husband Conrad; four great-grandchildren, Ellie, Michael, Joey, Mariana, and Isla.
A private family service for Joan will be held.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation.
