John David (Jack) DeTalvo
Jack DeTalvo of Wall Township, born on October 24, 1948, died on March 7, 2022. Jack was 73 years old. He was born in Hazelton, PA and moved to NJ in 1952 where he lived all of his life. He grew up in Bridgewater and attended the Bridgewater-Raritan schools. After graduating from high school, Jack earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Glassboro State (now Rowan University). He began his career as a high school math teacher. In 1973 Jack earned a masters degree from Kean University. In 1985 Jack completed his education by earning a doctorate in Educational Administration from Rutgers University.
Jack worked for 34 years in public education. For the last 20 years of his career he served as superintendent of the West Morris Regional, Perth Amboy and Middletown school districts. Dr. DeTalvo had a long and accomplished career as a school administrator. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Kean University and served as President of the NJ Urban School Superintendents. In addition, he was an active member of the Wrestling Officials Association of the Shore Conference for 14 years. Over the course of his career, Jack was recognized for many of his accomplishments. However, he was most proud of having completed almost 250 million dollars of school construction over the course of his career.
Jack was also passionate about his hobbies and interests. He was an avid freshwater fisherman; he would spend at least 6 months a year chasing trophy-size muskies in lakes and rivers throughout NJ on his boat. He also traveled to the Snake River in Hell's Canyon in Idaho and caught a 200lb + Sturgeon. Dr. DeTalvo was also a strong supported of the second amendment and enjoyed the shooting range. He also rode his two Harleys every summer until he injured is back. In addition, Jack was skilled in the building trades as evidenced by the many renovations and improvements he personally made to his home. Finally, Jack was well-known for speaking frankly without considering who he offended. Jack loved the outdoors. If couldn’t be outside, he could be found relaxing in front of his TV.
Jack is survived by the love of his life, Linda Crimaldi. Linda spent many years trying to take care of Jack which was no easy task. She was a devoted and loving companion. Jack and Linda enjoyed traveling and loved the warm weather. Jack would go anywhere to catch a big fish and Linda loved the beach. In addition to Linda, Jack adored his two Maltese dogs, Max and Sam. Jack is survived by Linda’s children, Anthony and Jerilyn Crimaldi of Port Monmouth, NJ, Michael and Cindy Crimaldi of Brick, NJ and six grandchildren, Tristan, Anthony, Brandon, Tyler, Gabriel and Grace (the little girl) as well as his brother Bill of Cincinnati, OH and Mike of Wall, NJ. He is predeceased by his parents, Carmen and Mary and his sister Madeline DeTalvo.
There will be a viewing at O’Brien Funeral Home on Route 35 in Wall Township on March 10, 2022, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral service will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home on Friday, March 11th at 10am.
