John Christopher Purfield, age 53 of Brick, NJ passed away on December 25, 2022 at Hackensack University Medical Center listening to “Rock and Roll All Night” by his favorite band, Kiss.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 3, 1969 but lived most of his childhood in Howell, NJ, where he graduated high school. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Kean University. In 1995 John married his high school sweetheart and they have resided in Brick Township for the last 25 years.

John worked as a computer programmer for many years. He trained in Jiu Jitsu and enjoyed participating in competitions, but music was his passion. He enjoyed going to concerts and talking to his many friends about different musicians and bands. He played bass guitar in a band with his lifelong friends at various venues throughout the Jersey shore.

People were drawn to John for his infectious laugh and sense of humor. His kindness and compassion made him a friend to everyone he met. As a devoted husband and father, John’s strong desire to nurture his family was admired by all who knew him.

He is survived by his parents, John and Annabel Purfield, wife of 27 years Sheri Purfield, son, Jake Purfield, daughter, Kayla Purfield, and his brother Michael Purfield.

A viewing will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 4pm-7pm at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern, Brick, NJ. A funeral service will take place on Saturday December 31, 2022, 10am at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
