Obituary for John Patrick Reynolds

John P. Reynolds, 75, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on February 28, 2021.

Raised in what was then referred to as the “Vinegar Hill” section of West Harlem in New York City, John graduated from Bishop Dubois High School in New York City. While serving in the US Army National Guard, John completed his degree from Manhattan College, where his daughters also graduated as proud Jaspers. In recent years, he was a resident of Spring Lake, NJ, having previously resided in Sea Girt, Brielle and Marlboro NJ.

The bulk of John's career was spent at the intersection of technology and Wall Street financial services, serving for a time as Chairman of the Securities Industry Association telecommunications subcommittee. He began his career at New York Telephone Company, where he held positions of increasing executive responsibility with NY Telephone and its successor companies. He later moved on to the brokerage firm Mabon Nugent, where he was a limited partner and responsible for their communications, facilities, and technology. In the mid-1990s, he founded his own telecommunications company, Econotek Communications, serving as its CEO until his retirement.

A devout and committed Catholic his entire life, John's life revolved around faith and family. John is now reunited with his wife of 48 years and the love of his life, Eileen, whom he tirelessly cared for in the years leading up to her passing in 2015. He is survived by his three children, Kerrie Hurley of Waldwick NJ; Kristen Johnson and her husband, Curt, also of Waldwick; and John Reynolds and his wife Stacy of Wilton CT. He will be forever missed by his 10 grandchildren: Emily, Michael and Christopher Borgese; Maggie, Connor and Jack Johnson; and Brady, Maeve, Fiona and Quinn Reynolds. He was their biggest fan on the sports field, their biggest cheerleader as they applied to colleges, and a sage mentor as they sought life advice (or an occasional good joke) from their Pop.

John is also survived by his sister, Ann McNeila, of Florida. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen, and brothers Michael and Thomas.

Viewing will be at O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall, on Thursday from 1-4pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake, on Friday at 10:30am. Private Burial will take place on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Christian Brothers Academy https://www.cbalincroftnj.org/support-cba/make-a-gift-today/ (attention: “John P. and Eileen Reynolds Memorial Scholarship”) would be appreciated.
