Obituary for Joseph Maxwell

Joseph Maxwell, age 68, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Born in Jersey City, Joseph was raised in California, New York, and Belmar, New Jersey.

A 1971 graduate of Saint Rose High School in Belmar, he starred on the soccer and baseball teams, eventually attending Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina. He transferred to Brookdale Community College where he majored in Business and captained the Soccer Team. He also served in the Merchant Marines, graduate of the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship and he was a member of the Seafarers International Union. Joe was an avid fan of the Liverpool F.C. and the Los Angeles Rams.

Joe loved living at the Jersey Shore. He was the “underground Mayor” of Belmar, and had many friends. He frequented and worked in the food and beverage industry. He was a wonderful son, brother, father, grandfather and friend. His generosity and kindness will be missed by many. He had an infectious “have a good time” attitude. Wherever Joe was, that was where everyone wanted to be.

He has resided in Wall Township for the last 30 years. Prior to his retirement, he owned a prominent maintenance company. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Catherine Gladys Maxwell and his sister, Marlene Maxwell.

He is survived by his daughter, Dawn and her husband, Evan and the apple of his eye, his Grandson, Cameron Cirelli of Jackson, his brother, Raymond, his wife Joanne, their children Daniel and Rita and his brother, Billy Maxwell, and his children Liam and Tara.

A celebration of life will be hosted by the family.
