Obituary for Joseph T Avaltroni

Joseph T. Avaltroni, 81, passed away at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ on February 7, 2021.

Joseph was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He moved to Old Bridge, NJ and lived there for 31 years before retiring and settling down in Toms River, NJ.

Joseph had a love for dance. Prior to starting a family, he devoted many years to training, eventually becoming a professional ball room dancer. His dream came true in 1965 when he won the National Tango Championship with his wife, Dolores, in the Harvest Moon Ball at Madison Square Garden.

He worked in the legal department at the New York Times until his retirement when he then took a part time job working in the activities department at the Holiday Care Center. He was most proud of his role as Master of Ceremonies for their annual Academy Awards event.

Joseph was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends celebrating holiday dinners, telling old stories, and teasing those he loved with his quick-witted sense of humor.

He is predeceased by his daughter Lori. Survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dolores, his daughter Dana and son in law, Robert, his two granddaughters, Ally and Emma and his grandog, Lola.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Margaret’s Church in Spring Lake, followed by the Interment at Greenwood Cemetery Brielle.
