Joseph Peter Santangelo, age 92, of Wall passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Sunrise of Wall. Joseph was born in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up and went to school in Newark, NJ. As a young man attending Barringer High School, Joseph played the saxophone in a band called the Blue Jackets. Later, Joseph served in the US Army during the Korean War. He then went on to attend Seton Hall University.
It was in Newark where he met the love of his life Irene. They were married and together raised their family in Belleville and Edison. As his father before him, Joseph was a successful barber. He owned and operated the Towne and Country Men’s Hairstyling Room in Iselin for over 40 years before moving to Four Seasons in Wall to enjoy a long-awaited retirement. Joseph was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt for many years. He enjoyed golf, reading books, and listening to Tony Bennett and opera. Joseph loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Irene. Surviving are his children, Rosanne Tagliamonte and her husband Steve, Joseph Peter Santangelo Jr and his wife Donna, David Santangelo and his wife Colleen; 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a new great grandson on the way.
Viewing will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022, from 8am-9am at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 9:30 am at St. Mark’s RC Church, Sea Girt followed by entombment at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.
