Obituary for Kathleen Ann Brogowski

Kathleen Ann Brogowski, age 74, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Cambridge, MA, Kathleen grew up in Medfield, MA-Just outside of Boston.  She attended Framingham State University and met her husband of over 50 years at a college mixer.  She resided in Holmdel for 30 years before moving to Spring Lake 12 years ago. Kathleen retired from over 25 years of service as an educator; finishing her career as a guidance counselor at Holmdel High School. Kathleen relished the opportunity to serve her community as an educator and inspired her students daily.  She always went the extra mile to make extra calls, write letters, and encourage her students to always reach for the college of their dreams. 

Kathleen was active in the community serving on the Holmdel Board of Education as vice president, responding to medical emergencies as and EMT for Holmdel First Aid Squad, serving clothes and meals to the homeless with the Bridges organization, mentoring young boys as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and supporting the St. Catherine’s Church youth group in Holmdel.  Kathleen loved being active and in motion.  She was active with the Jersey Shore Runners club and completed 5 full marathons over 20 half marathons, and countless charity runs. In retirement, she continued to remain active with the school system as a substitute teacher, hospital volunteer at Jersey Shore Medical Center, president of the Spring Lake Garden Club.  She loved traveling, reading, biking. Her most recent role was that of Nana to her beloved granddaughter. 

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Theodore (Tod) Brogowski, her sons, Peter Brogowski and his wife, Carrie, and Theodore (Todd) Brogowski, III and his wife, Corinne, and her granddaughter, Mia Brogowski.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 4-8 p.m. at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 13th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catharine's RC Church, Spring Lake followed by the interment at St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt.
