Obituary for Kathleen Cody (Walker)

Kathleen Cody, 78, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Spring Lake Heights on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 . Known as Kathleen to family, she was Kathy to friends.

Born in Jersey City, she was raised in Hoboken and graduated there from Academy of the Sacred Heart, Class of 1960. After high school, Kathleen worked at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company, NYC, then a pediatric practice in North Bergen, and later at an Ob/Gyn practice in Brielle, and made many life-long friendships.

Kathleen was predeceased by her mother, Mary (Caffarelli) Walker, her father, James J. Walker, Jr., and brother, Dennis. She married her husband, John W. Cody, in 1963. They first met at a Hoboken Five and Dime store where they worked during the 1959 Christmas Season. They lived in Union City with their two children, and in 1974 moved to Spring Lake Heights, then to Wall for many years. From there in 2018, they downsized to a retirement community in Howell, before finally returning to their Spring Lake Heights roots in 2021.

She was active in the PTA at St. Catharine School, Spring Lake, and Red Bank Catholic High School. While serving on the Boards at each school she made lasting friendships. Kathleen was also active for many years with the St. Catharine Candlelight Ball.

Kathleen always favored her Mom’s Italian heritage, and became known for her wonderful Italian meals with family and dinner parties she and her husband hosted. Among her favorite places to travel were California, New Orleans, and Disney World where she delighted in many trips with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband John, daughter Sharon Judge (Kevin), son John (Tara), and her greatest joys of all: grandchildren Will, Allison and Kerry Judge, Jessica (Cody) Tremmel and Aiden Cody, and great grandchildren Matthew and Dorothy Tremmel. She is also survived by her brother, James J. Walker III, and dear cousin, Sandy Gregory.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Margaret Church, 300 Ludlow Avenue, Spring Lake. In observance of the Catholic period of Lent, no flowers will be allowed in the Church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Twp.,
