Obituary for Louis Donato De Benedetto

Louis Donato De Benedetto, age 69, passed away on July 14, 2022 at JSUMC, after a very tough and courageous battle with cancer, dying peacefully, with his family beside him. Born in Newark, NJ, Lou spent most of his life a resident of Avon, NJ. Receiving his draft notice for Vietnam, he chose to serve with the US Navy. After being discharged, he went to work as a DOD civilian employee for the Navy at Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck, retiring as a Logistic Specialist. Always the sailor, he also re-enlisted in the Navy Reserves, serving during the Gulf and Iraq Wars, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He proudly dedicated 43 years to the country he so loved. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing baseball and softball on numerous teams and coaching many years for Avon recreation and little league. He was an avid fisherman, who you could always find at the docks and a lifelong musician, hanging out and playing with his bandmates almost every Sunday. Lou also loved riding his bike, especially from Avon to Asbury.

He was predeceased by both his parents, Louis and Lena (Saporito) De Benedetto. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Doria De Benedetto; his son, Cory and his wife, Kayla; cherished granddaughter, Aria Geralena; sister, Lois Kettle; nephew Louie Kettle; nephew Bill Kettle and his wife, Michelle; his large Italian family; his Navy family - military and civilian; and numerous friends.

A visitation will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall on Tuesday, August 16, 2-5pm with a Memorial Service to be held at 4pm.
