Obituary for Mae V. Cumiskey (Besko)

Mae V. Cumiskey, 96, of Berkeley Township (Holiday City), NJ passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Born and raised in Harrison, NJ, she attended Holy Cross School. She worked for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company in Newark for 27 years before retiring in 1970 to raise her family.  She served as a Red Cross volunteer and at the City Hospital Blood Bank in Newark. Mae and her husband were members of the Kearny High School Band Parents Association and foster parents for 20 years. They owned and operated the Shamrock Lodge Guest House in Spring Lake for 26 years.  She also served on the Bereavement team at St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake for 13 years. She had a great love for animals and supported many causes.

Mae was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward C. Cumiskey in 1991, her son E.J. in 1997, her mother, Lola, in 1992 and her brother Edward W. Besko in 2018. Surviving are her 3 daughters, Rev. Dr. Kathleen Cumiskey (Robin) of Staten Island, NY, Kimberly Cumiskey of Philadelphia, PA, Crystal Caballero (Noel) of Neptune, NJ, 3 grandchildren, Apryl, Noel Jr and Matthew Caballero. She also leaves 2 nephews Edward D. Besko (Karen), Larry Besko (Louis), 2 great nephews, Edward A. and Michael Besko and a great niece Danielle Cavanaugh (Mark), also Bolcer cousins and extended family Bill and Sue Whitney.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 12pm until 5pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. Funeral Mass will be Monday, January 8, 2024, 10am at St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake. Burial will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
