Obituary for Margaret M. "Peggy " Buckley (Gleason )

Margaret Buckley (Peggy) of Wall, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 after a courageous four-year battle with Sarcoma.

Peggy was born in Staten Island and after graduating from High School she earned her B.A. from the College of Mt. St. Vincent, Bronx, NY and then her Master’s as a Reading Specialist from Manhattan College, also in the Bronx.  She taught for 43 years, earlier in New York and later in New Jersey where she settled because she loved being near the ocean.

Peggy enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Ireland with her late husband, Dan.  She was a lifelong lover of all music and dancing, but more than anything she loved doing the Irish Ceili and set dancing, both here and in Florida.  She just couldn’t sit still if the music was playing.

She also enjoyed playing Mahjong, reading, day trips to the City (pre-Covid), socializing with local friends and reunions with her oldest group of friends from first grade with whom she stayed in touch all of these years.

For many years, before health issues made it impossible, Peggy and Dan spent the Winter months in Florida where they enjoyed the warm weather and endless activities.

Peggy was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Sea Girt and a long-time member of the Manasquan Elks.

Peggy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dan; her parents, Matthias and Adele Gleason and her sisters, Christine and Jane.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-laws, Matthias and Elizabeth, Richard and Jenny and her much loved nephews and nieces, Matthew Gleason, Kevin (Teresa) Gleason, Christine (Brian) Swords and Timothy Gleason.  She is also survived by her dear great-nephews and niece, Matty, Luke, William and Nora.  Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Dr. Paul (Francine) Buckley.

Visitation will be private.  Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s RC Church, Sea Girt followed by the entombment at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Meridian Hospice, 343 Thornall Street, Edison, NJ 08837.
