We are so sorry to hear about Peggy's passing. My Mom (Bridget Harkin) and the entire family send you all love, prayers and sympathy. She lived an amazing life full of great family and friendships. I was trying to find the last picture I took of my Mom and Peggy, but cannot locate. If I do I will be sure to post. May she rest in peace.

My Mom had a kind word, a sincere prayer, a shared, clean joke or a loaf of Irish bread for anyone she deemed worthy. Of course, in her happy, Irish blue eyes, everyone was worthy of kindness, respect and love. The rule of St. Benedict that “ all are to be welcomed as Christ” was practiced in our house. That was one of her greatest lessons. No one who entered the Johnston household ever left hungry. Most left with a “care” package, perhaps the treasured Irish bread or her soul filling baked ziti, credit goes to Gilda D’Amato Perry , a friend of
six decades for that recipe.
Be kind and help others was a credo she lived.
The memory of her graceful smile and gentle way
warms me still. If you look for that smile, it will appear on the face of James and John, her beloved
twins, who were so identical, that in older family pictures, I truly believe only Peggy could tell them apart. That earth warming smile is also reflected on the faces of Toni and Katherine, wonderful
wives to my brothers and mothers to those handsome and beautiful grandchildren, Ken, Jenna, Elizabeth, Conor, Grace and Sean.
An Irish smile carries many a mile as I have seen
Peggy’ s reflected grace and warmth on the faces of Michael and Brodie, Cristina and now James Raphael. She had a special love for her devoted nieces and nephews, Margie, Margaret, Mary and Patrick and Rose and her husband, Fran.
If you are reading this, know that she loved you
and prayed for you. There were no exceptions.

My Mom was at peace and remained a “true
believer” recently telling my amazing fiance’ Elle, that she was “ready to go to heaven”. She is reunited with her lads, Jim and Kevin and all who have gone ahead. An Irish son learns early to never question a mothers’ love, faith or prayers, just passing that on to ya, now.
Thank you all for the phone calls, notes, flowers, prayers, and hospital and hospice visits. Special thanks to the churches, clergy and parishioners of Sacred Heart and St. Thomas in Bloomfield and St. Dominic’s in Brick especially Father Brian, Father Joe and retired Monsignor Brady for your many years of love and service to my Mom.
Love and prayers, her son, Dennis.

So sorry for your loss. Thinking of your family and sorry I am unable to attend the services. I have fond childhood memories of your family. Yours: all boys. Mine: all girls. I hope you can recall happy times with your Mom and that your grief is softened by them.
