Obituary for Margaret M. "Peggy " Johnston (O'Reilly )
Margaret M. “Peggy” Johnston of Brick, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Willow Springs in Brick. Born and raised in Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan, Ireland, Peggy immigrated to the United States in 1947, where she resided in Newark. She resided in Bloomfield for many years before moving to Brick in 1986.
Mrs. Johnston worked as a clerk for Bamberger’s in Newark for many years.
Peggy was a former member of St. Thomas RC Church in Bloomfield and was a communicant of St. Dominic’s RC Church in Brick. She was a member of the Women of Irish Heritage Club in Essex County. In her spare time Peggy loved card games, especially canasta.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, James A. Johnston in 2007; her son, Kevin Allan Johnston in 1991 and her 10 siblings.
Surviving are her loving sons, James Richard Johnston and his wife, Catherine of West Orange, John Patrick Johnston and his wife, Toni of Freehold, Dennis Edmond Johnston and his fiancé, Elle of Bloomfield; her six grandchildren and one great grandchild with one on the way.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick, NJ 08724. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic’s RC Church, Brick followed by the interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair.
Donations can be made in Peggy’s name to St. Dominic’s School, 250 Old Squan Rd., Brick, NJ 08724.
