Mary Margaret “Peg” Curran, ,101, of Spring Lake Heights, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at home.
Mrs. Curran (nee O’Leary) was born in Newburgh, N.Y. She lived in Elizabeth, as well as in Lavallette, before moving to Spring Lake Heights 6 years ago. She taught at Christopher Columbus School #15, in Elizabeth, for 23 years, where she earned the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award in 1987, as well as at St. Genevieve School. She was the Chairman of the Ocean County Chapter of the Right to Life Association, as well as a member of the Rosary Society and Third Order Carmelites at St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.
Mrs. Curran was predeceased by her beloved husband John “Jack” Curran, in 2000, as well as by her brothers, Dr. Arthur O’Leary and Daniel O’Leary. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Margaret and Paul Chaput, of Chatham, John and Ellen Curran, of Sea Girt, Kathy and John Murphy, of Elizabeth, and Daniel and Jackie Curran, of Narrowsburg, N.Y. Also surviving are Mrs. Curran’s 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Saturday, June 8, 2019, from 8:30-10 AM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake, on Saturday at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Curran’s memory may be made to Right to Life, Ocean County Chapter.
