Obituary for Marguerite "Pat " Doran (Nolan)

Marguerite “Pat” (nee Nolan) Doran, 91 of Spring Lake. passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Brandywine of Wall. 

Born in Hoboken in 1930, Pat was raised in Jersey City , before moving to Spring Lake Heights and then to Spring Lake where she spent the rest of her life.

Pat graduated from the Academy of St. Aloysius in Jersey City before earning a B.S. in Home Economics from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ

Pat worked at many local Fabric stores (Fabs, Florences, Cloth World) to name a few, where she taught sewing classes. She was very well respected in the sewing community. 

She will be remembered as a brilliant seamstress. She made with love her daughter’s prom dresses and Tricia’s hand beaded wedding dress, as well as many other handmade clothing for family and friends.

Pat worked at Doolan’s in Spring Lake Heights for over 30 years as Head Banquet and wedding event planner. She took great pride in making the Bride and Groom (Wedding Party) feel like the King and Queen for the day. The Doolan family and staff were like a second family to her.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Pat was a girl scout leader, a master at Jigsaw puzzles, New York Times Crossword puzzles, gardening, wallpapering, upholstering and Halloween Costume making. 

And in her spare time, she raised 6 children. Mom will be greatly missed, especially her beautiful blue eyes.

She was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 65 years James “Jim” F. Doran Jr. on April 13, 2019, her parents Patrick and Marguerite (nee Bauer) Nolan, her sisters Kathleen Lynch, Eileen McCormack and Jean Root, her son in law Mark Cassidy, daughter in law Debbie Doran, respectfully Mary and Peter, and her dear friend Mary Raab.

Surviving is her loving brother Patrick Nolan, her 6 devoted children and their spouses, son Jim, daughter Carol Cassidy, son Kevin (Donna), daughter Sharon Lyden (former husband James), daughter Tricia Herr (John), and son Sean (Debby) , her 7 grandkids, Kristen Farr (Chris), Eric Doran (Lily), Kaitlyn Herr, Karl Herr, Conor Lyden, Olivia Nickerson, Katie Doran and great grandkids Annie and Lucy Farr and many beloved nieces and nephew; a special thank you to her caregivers,  especially, Daphne, Verna and Reggie. 

Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 10:30am at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. Private burial will be in the NJ Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, at the convenience of her family.
