Obituary for Marie P. Knapp (Walling)
Marie P. Knapp, 103, formerly of Jersey City and Ocean Twp., passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Imperial Care Center in Neptune. Mrs. Knapp was a hairdresser throughout her career. She was the proud owner of Charm Beauty Shop in Jersey City before retiring. After retiring, she became very involved with her senior communities of Poplar and Heritage Villages in Ocean Township. She served as Past President of the Senior Club.
Born and raised in Keansburg, she lived and raised her family in Jersey City before moving to the Jersey Shore 38 years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, David in 1980; and by her son-in-law, PJ Downes. Surviving are her daughters, Theresa Downes and her longtime boyfriend, Garry Oceanak, and Kathleen Richland and her husband, Mark formerly of Ocean Twp.; son, Frank Tedeschi and his late wife, Ann of Bayonne; 6 grandchildren, Patrick, David, Stephanie, Adam, Lee, and Lindsay, and a great grandson, Silas. She also leaves her nieces, Betty, Veronica and her husband, Maynard and Norma; as well as a nephew, Michael and his wife, Connie and a late nephew, Jimmy. She also leaves her dear friend, Ed Courter as well as many other dear friends.
Viewing will be on Wednesday from 2-7pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. A Funeral Mass will be offered Thursday, 10am at St. Teresa of Calcutta (formerly Ascension Church) in Bradley Beach. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
