Mark Christopher Sharkey, 44, of Howell passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick surrounded by his family. Mark was a lifelong tropical fish enthusiast & the former owner of Sharkey’s Aquarium in Point Pleasant before closing the pet store 4 years ago due to illness. Previously, he worked in the IT department at Quest Diagnostics in Teterboro.
Born in Belleville, he briefly lived in Kearny before becoming a lifelong resident of the Ramtown section of Howell.
Surviving are his parents, John and Isobel Sharkey of Howell; brothers, John Sharkey and his late wife, Dennisse of Point Pleasant Beach, David Sharkey of Belmar, and Stephen Sharkey and his wife, Nicole of Brick; sister, Michele Estes and her husband, Jason of Howell; his uncle, John Toner of Torrance, CA; 8 nieces and nephews, Lauren, Colleen, Nicole, John, Isabella, Andrew, Jessica and Jacqueline; as well as his beloved cat, Yoda.
Visiting will be on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A prayer service will be conducted at 8:30pm that evening in the funeral home. Final interment will be private. Donations may be made in his name to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
