Obituary for Martha J. Myers
Toms River, NJ - Martha Flynn Myers, 93, died peacefully at The Chelsea at Brick on Saturday, November 16, 2019.
Born in Newark, NJ, Martha raised her family in Glen Ridge, NJ where her daughter fondly remembers in the later years there, Martha picking her up in her baby blue Mustang, with a map in hand for their many Saturday drives to local estate sales. She retired to Lavallette, where she loved her walks on the boardwalk, and finally to a retirement community in Toms River, NJ.
Martha was a registered nurse by profession working at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair. She was also an artist with a keen eye for color, a gardener, and an active volunteer at a local hospital, a nursing home, and her community Outreach Program. She was a devout Catholic who prayed the rosary daily and happily added friend's and family's intentions to her prayer list when asked. Martha was a treasure who will be missed by all who loved her.
Martha was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Myers in 2012, her daughters Jane Mikulka, and Maryann Hernandez, her grandson Kevin Lennox, her brother Roderick Flynn, and her sister Sarah Will.
Surviving are her brother, Arthur Flynn, her daughter Kathleen McCarthy with Pat McCarthy, her son Thomas Gregory Myers; her grandchildren, Jon Boylan,Tom Boylan, Kimberly Bell, Jason Waskiewicz, Jessica Zaninelli, Allison Dunn, Sandra Englehardt, Heather Hernandez, Jean Ashton, Katelyn Avella and Shaylyn Avella and 14 great grandchildren.
The family requests no flowers please. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd Brick. There will be a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Martha's Church, Pt. Pleasant followed by the burial at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.
