Martin Joseph Freeman, age 73, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Born in Jersey City, NJ and raised in East Orange, Marty resided in Springfield for many years before permanently settling in Brielle two years ago. He attended St. Benedict's Preparatory School, Newark, and graduated from the Newark College of Engineering, (now NJIT).  Marty started his career as an environment engineer at Nabisco in East Hanover.  He subsequently worked for the United States Environmental Protection Agency retiring in 2015.   Marty was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in West Orange. In his spare time, Marty enjoyed gardening, fishing, singing, and celebrating his Irish heritage. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Margaret (nee Lillis) Freeman. Surviving is his loving wife of 47 years, Joanne (nee Pietrucha) Freeman; his siblings, Kathleen Scheiderman (Donald), Walter Freeman, M.D. (Joni), Aloysius Freeman, M.D. (Mary), Maggie McCabe (Jerry), and Kevin Freeman (Lisa); sister-in-law, Dorothy Pietrucha, M.D. and brother-in-law Raymond Pietrucha (Holly), along with many cherished nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 4-7 PM at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 9:30 AM at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, 90 Union Ave, Manasquan. Entombment will follow at St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt.
