Obituary for Mary Bishop Fries (Bishop )

Mary Bishop Fries, 81, of Brick and Spring Lake Hts, NJ formerly of Staten Island, NY died peacefully on Monday, February 8, 2021. Born in Staten Island, NY, Mary was a graduate of Tottenville H.S. and The College of Staten Island. Mary was a homemaker before attending college part time to ultimately earn a master’s degree in education. She taught special education at PS37 until she retired.

When she lived at the New Jersey Shore, she enjoyed walking on the boardwalk in Spring Lake and riding her bike. Mary also loved Maine where she spent time as a child, as well as an adult working at a bed and breakfast. She had many wonderful friends throughout her life including many still from her childhood. She was known for her incredible cooking and baking skills, especially her apple pie! She also enjoyed sewing and decorating for every holiday.

She loved her grandchildren more than anything and enjoyed taking them to the beach and boardwalk when they were younger. Mary was so proud of all of her grandchildren and especially enjoyed watching them play sports from football, basketball and lacrosse in Cranford, NJ to Penn State football. She was a collector of early American furniture, collectibles, and quilts.

Mary is survived by her son, Harold Fries, daughter-in-law Maureen, daughter Peggy Fries Carlton, son-in-law Gregory, and five grandchildren, William Fries, Mallory Fries, Matthew Fries, Kristen Fries and Patrick Carlton. She also leaves her many beloved nieces and nephews.
