Obituary for Mary Helen Madrid (Monaco)

Mary Helen (Monaco) Madrid, PhD, 83, of Brick passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Wellington Estates in Wall. Dr. Madrid retired in 2010 as Director of Patient Care for the Center for Endovascular Surgery at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City, NY after a long, dedicated career in health care. Honored by the Martha E. Rogers Center for Study of Nursing Science as the 1999 Visiting Scholar. Received the Samuel Eshborn Service Award 1993 from NY University of Education. She was a graduate of William Paterson College in Wayne and received a Master’s Degree and PhD in Nursing from New York University in NYC. She was a proud member of Phi Delta Kappa at NYU and a member of the Registered Nurses Association in New York City. Editor Rogers’ Scientific Art of Nursing Practice 1994, Patterns of Rogerian Knowing 1997, Contributor Visions of Rogers Science-Based Nursing, Co-wrote Chapter 3 in Case Studies in Nursing Theory.

Born in North Tonawanda, NY, she lived in Ontario, NY and Totowa before moving to Brick in 2002.
Dr. Madrid was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Madrid in 2011; and by her father, John Monaco; and mother, Helen Monaco.

Surviving are her sons, Rodney Madrid and his wife, Barbara Hart of Bay Head, and Bryan Madrid and his wife, Kimberly of Leonia; daughters, Linda Schwartz and her husband, Neil of New Paltz, NY and Deborah Polimeni and her husband, Robert of Canandaigua, NY; her sister, Frances Boren of Melbourne, FL; 11 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

Viewing will be on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 4-7pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A prayer service will be conducted 11am on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial 12:30pm in the outside shelter of the cemetery. Reminder - funeral services are under capacity restrictions and all visitors must wear face coverings.
