Obituary for Mary Agnes Thompson (Kearney)

Mary A. Thompson, 82, of Brick, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

Mrs. Thompson (nee Kearney) was born and raised in Newark, where she graduated from both St. Michael’s Grammar and High School. She was married in St. Michael’s Church as well. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for the FBI in Newark for many years, and proudly wore her Society of Former FBI Women pin for many years thereafter. After marrying, Mrs. Thompson lived in Belleville, Sayreville for many years, where she raised her children, Freehold, and finally in Greenbriar, Brick, for the last 13 years. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Mary (nee Salerno) Kearney, as well as her daughter Eileen Thompson Cassidy (in 2018), and her brothers, Andrew and John Kearney. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, William J. Thompson, and her sons and daughters-in-law, William G. and Susan Thompson, of Freehold Twp., and Michael A. and Agnes Thompson, of Marlboro. She was the beloved grandmother of Billy, Courtney and Shannon Thompson, Michael, Connor and Maeve Cassidy, and Brianna and Mickey Thompson. Also surviving are Mrs. Thompson’s sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Buddy McCauley, of Florida.

Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, from 5-8 PM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Dominic Church, Brick, on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at 10 AM. Mrs. Thompson will be cremated privately; her cremated remains will be placed into the family niche at St. Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt at a later date.
