Matthew Houston Morris, 31, of Point Pleasant Beach passed away on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024 from injuries sustained while snowmobiling under a blue sky in the Vermont wilderness near Stratton, VT.

Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, Matt spent most of his time residing between Point Pleasant Beach and New York City. He was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School and went on to earn a B.S. in Hotel Restaurant and Institutional Management from the Penn State University School of Hospitality Management.

Matt was a results driven hospitality leader, putting his degree right to work in the world of fine dining with the Union Square Hospitality Group where he dedicated his time as the Service Director and Assistant General Manager at the Modern Restaurant, a Michelin Star contemporary restaurant at the Museum of Modern Art. Over the years, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to his second home at Point Lobster Company in Point Beach, committing his time and creativity to co-founding Point Lobster Bake Catering Company where he planned and operated full service clam bakes for private and public events as well as launching the famous Point Lobster Bake food truck for high volume seafood stands in and around NJ.

Matt found great joy in creating personal and professional connections through his work and within his community and when he wasn't "working hard" he was "playing hard", spearheading epic Penn State tailgates in college, wining and dining friends for sunset sails on his boat on the Barnegat Bay, anchoring for long days at Flag and Treasure Islands with his beloved dog Kai, tearing up the dance floor at countless weddings, giving memorable speeches at all sorts of events, ordering for the table, snowboarding in Vermont, exploring tropical islands and so much more.

His legacy lives on through the countless personal relationships he had with so many friends and family in each circle of his life. His charming personality, uncanny wit, master storytelling abilities, unwavering tendency to always get a job done and propensity to show up to lend a helping hand made him one of the most important and outstanding guys this world has ever met.

He relished his role as "Uncle Matt" to his twelve nieces and nephews and is survived by his father Paul Morris of New York, NY, his mother Kimberly (McShane) Murray and husband Dan of Point Pleasant Beach, partner Niko Stathes, and his ten siblings, Paul, Patrick, Richard and Timothy Morris, Kyle, Shane and Conor Murray, Shane Sparks, Heather Tonkovich, and Katey Hoffman, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends from the Jersey Shore and beyond.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday February 27, 2024 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home: 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick Twp., NJ 08724.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Church of the Sacred Heart: 751 Main Ave. (Rt. 35 S.) Bay Head, NJ 08742 with a repast and lunch immediately following at Martell's Tiki Bar: 308 Boardwalk, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742.

Please go directly to the Church on Wednesday, there will not be a procession from the funeral home prior to Mass. In keeping with the Catholic tradition of Lent, no flowers will be accepted at the Church.
