Michael J. Toal (ret. FDNY), 66 of Spring Lake passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from a long term illness related to his service at the World Trade Center site on Sept. 11, 2001.
Born and raised in Staten Island, NY he graduated Tottenville High School and Wagner College, Staten Island. He took great pride in playing in the football program at both schools as a defensive end and later as the center at Wagner College. He continued his lifelong friendships with his teammates participating in golf outings well into his 60’s. He was a lifelong NY sports fan rooting for the NY Rangers, NY Yankees and NY Giants. He had a home in Manahawkin and had resided in Spring Lake since retiring in 2011.
At the time of his retirement, he was a Firefighter stationed with Ladder 20, SoHo, Manhattan.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Rosemary (nee Kiley) Toal and a brother Arthur in September of 1983 from a tragic car accident in Oklahoma.
Surviving is his devoted brother John Toal and wife Suzanne of Westfield and Spring Lake and his nephews Ryan and Sean and his niece Victoria, and numerous other nieces and nephews that he enjoyed spending quality time with.
Visitation Friday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00am in St. Catharine’s Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake, NJ 07762.
