Obituary for Michael J. "Mickey" Brennan

Michael J. ‘Mickey’ Brennan, 91, of the Four Seasons Community, Manasquan passed away peacefully on Monday, June 6th, 2022 at his home surrounded by family.  Mickey was born and raised in in New York City and began his long career in organized labor after his service in the Korean War.  In 1951 he became an apprentice with Metal Lathers Union Local 46.  He was subsequently elected to numerous positions and in 1972 became the General Secretary-Treasurer of the Metal Lathers International in Washington D. C.  Upon the affiliation of Local 46 with the Iron Workers International Association in 1979 he became the Iron Workers’ Political Director until his retirement in 1996. 

The son of Irish immigrants, Mickey was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and took many trips to Ireland with his beloved wife Mary. He also served as the President of the D.C. Friends of Ireland from 1974-1999. Upon retirement he moved to the Jersey shore and loved spending time with his grandchildren

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary C. Brennan. He is survived by his children, Michael of Las Vegas, NV, Kevin of Alexandria, VA, Patrick and his wife Kristen of Chester, NJ, Terrence and his wife, Debbie of Manasquan, and Maureen of Manasquan; and his seven grandchildren Austen, Danielle, Terry, Morgan, Emily, Ethan, and Sydney. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Michael will be offered on Saturday, June 11th, 2022 at 10:00AM at St. Denis RC Church, 90 Union Ave., Manasquan, NJ 08736.  Inurnment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall Twp., at a later date.
