Obituary for Mishele "Mike" Barakat

Mishele “Mike” Barakat, 89, of Howell, and formerly of Bogota, passed away at home on Saturday, August 10, 2019.
Mr. Barakat was born and raised in Union City. He lived in Bogota for 55 years, before moving to Howell 13 years ago. After graduating from Weehawken High School, where he excelled at track, he went on to earn both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Rutgers University. He served in the Navy during the Korean War, and went on to a career as a Purchasing Agent with Tube Sales, in Ridgefield, before his service-connected illness led to his retirement. He was a member of the VFW in Bogota and the DAV in Bergenfield. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Barakat was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary Barakat, as well as by several siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Dorothy (nee Ballway), and their children, Michelle and Vincent Bonanno, of Manassas, Va., Michael and Debbie Barakat, of Rockaway, N.J., Barbara and Billy Acker, of Las Vegas, and Eileen and Danny Gallagher, of Howell. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as Mr. Barakat’s sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Louis Salhany, and his brother-in-law, Arthur Ballway.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, from 4-8 P.M. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at 10 A.M., followed by entombment with military honors at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
