Obituary for Nicholas J. Huth

Nicholas Huth, age 85, of Manasquan passed away on April 22nd, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Manhattan and raised in Clifton, NJ, Nick also lived in Livingston, NJ and Stamford, CT where he and his wife of 55 years, Mary, raised their family before moving to Manasquan 24 years ago. Nick graduated from Clifton High School, Class of 1953 and then from Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT) in 1957, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering, participated in the US Air Force ROTC program and served as senior class Vice President. A superb athlete, Nick captained the NCE basketball team his senior year and also played varsity baseball and soccer there. Nick was later commissioned as a lieutenant in the Air Force where he served as a navigator in the Strategic Air Command for three years. Following his military service Nick embarked upon a successful 37-year career in sales with IBM, after which he worked for KPMG and other firms as a consultant until he retired. Throughout his life, Nick remained actively involved with his church; from his days as an altar boy to serving as a Eucharistic Minister and giving countless hours of his time in support of the Stamford Catholic Regional Schools System, through which he put six children.
Sharp, quick-witted, gregarious and a life-long learner, Nick was curious, interesting and fun to be around. An avid fan, if he wasn’t playing sports (golf in his later years) or attending his grandchildren’s games, he was watching his frustratingly beloved Mets or Jets or anything else he could find on television that involved a ball and movement of some kind. Nick treasured the deep, lifelong friendships he forged on the ballfields of Clifton and at Pi Kappa Phi while at NCE. Enamored of his impressive singing voice, Nick had amazing musical recall and often spontaneously broke out in song. Nick enjoyed his large family and was happiest on his deck in Manasquan sharing a sunset with them over a cold beer on a sultry summer evening.
Nick is predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (Harte), his parents, Nicholas and Ann Huth, and his sister Margie Mahoney. Nick is survived by his son Tom and his wife Diane of Manasquan, his son Nick and his wife Jeanie of Chatham, his daughter Peg Redmond and her husband John of Chatham, his daughter Jane Masi and her husband Bob of Hudson Ohio, his son Matt and his wife Kimberly of Chatham, his daughter Elizabeth Culley and her husband Mike of Wilmington DE, his 17 adoring grandchildren, his brother Chris of Boynton Beach, FL, his brother Charlie of New York, his sister-in-law Peggy McEnroe of Mantoloking, his brother-in-law Tom Harte of Jamestown NY and literally dozens of nieces and nephews. Nick is also predeceased by his long-time companion Sue Warnick, who brought a shining light into the darkness of his widowerhood.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 26th, from 5-9 pm at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd. Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Denis R.C.
