Obituary for Olga M. Obando

Olga M. Obando, 75, of Forked River, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in San Jose, Costa Rica, Olga moved to the United States in 1972 as a newlywed and has resided in Forked River for the past 5 years.  She was passionate about gardening, detailed craft work, and using her unique talent to create a gorgeous haven of a home. For Olga, dancing was more than an occasional leisure activity, as she danced with her husband daily to their favorite salsa music. Even beyond that music was a constant throughout Olga's home. Furthermore, she was known for her incredible cooking, extraordinarily delicious and delicately decorated Christmas cookies and cakes whose recipes she continually developed over the course of her life.  She loved nothing more than making these for her husband, her son, and her beloved guests any chance she got. She will be remembered for her loving, sweet, caring, kind spirit and her devoted compassion for her family.

Predeceased by her parents, Francisco Valverde Carvajal and Flora Solano Coto, her brother Mario Valverde, her sister Yamileth Valverde; she is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Jose S. Obando; her loving son, Christopher Obando and his partner, Stephanie Levenson; her siblings, Ana Valverde, Rodrigo Valverde, Roberto Valverde, Alvaro Valverde, Teresa Valverde, Grace Medrano, Martha Widuch, Leda Valverde, Francisco Valverde, Lidieth Valverde, Lillian Arias, Geovanny Valverde, Rose Mary Valverde, and Karol Valverde; her nieces and nephews, extended relatives and friends.
