Obituary for Richard V. Friedel

Richard “Dick” V. Friedel, 95, of Wall passed away October 27 at home peacefully. He was born in Bogota, New Jersey and moved here in 1954 after attending Miami University where he met his beautiful wife “Bobbi” at a tea party; married for 53 years.

Mr. Friedel’s first job was a Revlon salesman, but was most known as the owner of the Circus Drive-In for 49 years until his wife passed away in 2004. Generations of people still remember the restaurant and the ringmaster himself. He also owned the Moby Dick and the Kwickee Dickee before the Circus in Wall.

Richard was a Marine Veteran as well as a private pilot; owning his own plane which was the biggest joy of his life. Also, a classic car lover watching them circle the Circus many nights. He was one-in-a-million, a social person. Thanks to many of his friends and companion for keeping him happy and social.

He was the son of the late Christine and Val Friedel. He was predeceased by his wife, Bobbi and son Richard Jr.

Surviving is his daughter, Carol in Wall, his cousin Lorraine Timmerman, and his niece Caron Flagg of Point Pleasant and her 3 daughters. A special thank you to Michael and Sandy Young for their constant caregiving.

Visiting will be held from 4-8 pm Wednesday, November 2nd at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, November 3rd at 10:30 am at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Spring Lake followed by the burial and military honors at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
