Obituary for Richard D Galizio

Richard D. Galizio, age 65, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at his home in Lakewood, New Jersey.  He was born and raised in Spring Lake Heights. Richard , Rich, Rick -  went by many names depending on when you met him.  To family and friends up through high school, he was Richard or Rich.  To people he met after that, he was Rick.  Richard was a graduate of St. Catharine’s School in Spring Lake, Manasquan High School and Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) earning a BS degree in Hotel Management. In college, he was best known for founding the FDU chapter of the Sigma Pi Fraternity and being the first president.  He was an avid bowler participating on his high school’s bowling team as well as various leagues later in life.

Rich spent most of his career in the travel industry.  He got the travel bug during Easter break of his freshman year of high school going on a tour of Germany run by one of the German teachers and subsequent best friend - Gerry Angersbach.  He went on this tour again in each of his next three years of high school with Gerry asking him to be the tour guide on one of the buses on his final trip in senior year.  He continued to work on subsequent tours during school breaks throughout college.  Upon graduation, Rick went to work for Gerry full time at Angersbach International Tours (AIT).  From there, he went on to take sales positions at various travel-related companies (Iceland Air, Trafalgar, United Touring International, Wildlife Safari, LimoRes and Travel Guard AIG).

Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends preparing Sunday supper or just sitting around the dinner table talking. He especially enjoyed his time with his daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren; they were the light of his life.  While not a gambler, Richard loved to play the lottery.  The jury is still out as to which side of the ledger he ended up on between his lifetime entries and winnings. On more than a few occasions, luck was certainly on his side like the time he won a Mercedes Benz. The one thing we are certain of is that when it came to winnings measured by the love of family and friends, it was ALL ON THE PLUS SIDE; just ask anyone that knew him.  Richard has left all who knew him with wonderful memories that we all cherish.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Marie Galizio and brother, Michael.  Surviving are his daughter Bobbi Hagaman, grandchildren Kyle Kollmar, Cody Kollmar, Mikayla Carr, Jillian Hagaman, Meadow Radacoy and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Paul Galizio and his wife, Eileen, Robert Galizio as well as nieces and nephew Alyssa Smeal, Gabrielle Galizio, Maria Silver, and Nicholas Galizio.
