Obituary for Rita Costello (Murner)
Rita (nee Murner) Costello, 95, passed away on May 18, 2021 at Brightview Assisted Living, Tenafly. She was born on May 4, 1926. Rita was predeceased by her husband, Leo J. Costello in 2004, her parents, James J. & Ida (nee Beckler) Murner Sr., and her siblings, James J. Murner Jr., Peter P. Murner, and Mary May.
She is survived by her seven children: son Joseph and his wife Linda of Poulsbo, WA, son Leo “Biff” of Warren, NJ, daughter Mary Beth Costello and her husband Brinker Gibb of Fort Lee, NJ, daughter Nancy and her husband Donald Miller of Tenafly, NJ, daughter Joan and her husband Louis Ludwick of McLean, VA, daughter Rita and her husband Kenneth Alpaugh of Manville, NJ, and son Patrick and his wife Laurene of Methuen, MA. Twenty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive her.
Rita was a 1948 graduate of Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. Born and raised in Paterson, NJ, she was a Sea Girt resident and Communicant of St. Catharine’s Church for 30 years. The Jersey shore was her favorite place. In her last years, she resided at Brightview in Tenafly, NJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 21, 2021 followed by entombment at St. Catharine’s Mausoleum in Sea Girt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake, NJ.
