Obituary for Robert Henry Durna

Robert “Bob” Henry Durna, age 79, of Sea Girt, New Jersey passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

Born in Orange, New Jersey, Bob was raised in Irvington and summered in Belmar as a child. In Bob’s formative years, his parents moved to Sea Girt.

After graduating from Irvington High school in 1961, Bob went on to attend Franklin & Marshall college and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1965. Bob was a proud brother of Phi Kappa Psi - Penn Eta Chapter.

Following in his father’s footsteps, who owned the Henry Durna Insurance Agency, Bob worked as a Systems Director with Prudential Life Insurance for 33 years, retiring at the young age of 54 and establishing full time residence in Sea Girt.

One of Bob’s proudest moments was joining the Sea Girt Fire Department at age 62. He served multiple administrative officer positions and was President of the Sea Girt Fire Company for 2 years. Giving back to the community quietly was his passion, which led to additional volunteer efforts such as a juvenile court advocate for Monmouth County and an ombudsman at Tower Lodge Nursing Home in Wall.

Bob was a lover of all things fast; cars, motorcycles, and speed boats. He supported the Algonquin and Spring Lake theaters by attending nearly all shows each season with his family. He was fond of dogs, especially Dobermans and Great Danes.

Bob was a firm believer of our American liberties, was an avid reader, and taught his family many life lessons. He was a devoted father, pop pop and friend. His family was his everything.

Surviving are his loving daughters, Tara Zilioli and her husband, Marcelo and Jennifer Durna Pallitto and her husband, James; his cherished granddaughters, Arianna, Indira and Milana; his cousins who were like his siblings, J. Davies and his wife Carol and Jean Ewers as well as many other cousins and dear friends.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 1-4 p.m. with a funeral service being held at 4:00 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home,2028 Hwy 35, Wall, NJ 07719.  Cremation is private.

Flowers will be donated to Tower Lodge Nursing Home after the service.
