Obituary for Robert T. Liddell

Robert T. Liddell, 88, of Wall passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2020 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Robert was born in Passaic and lived in Rutherford, Clifton and Manahawkin before moving to Wall Township 22 years ago.
He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1949. After high school, Bob joined the US Coast Guard and proudly served his country as a petty officer aboard the U.S.C.G Richie (D.E.) during the Korean War. After the war, Bob attended Seton Hall University in South Orange before joining Almo Laboratories in Little Falls in 1956.
Bob worked for Almo for over 40 years and was elevated to the office of president in 1983. Bob was also a well-known public speaker as a vocation and served as an instructor for Dale Carnegie for 12 years. He was a former member of the local VFW and enjoyed watching professional sports, especially the NY Football Giants, NY Yankees, Notre Dame Football and the Masters Golf Tournament in the Spring.
Mr. Liddell was predeceased by his wife, Mary Helen (O’Dea) Liddell in 2013; his daughter, Beth Malleo, who died from cancer in 2011; his parents, John and Mary (Mulhern) Liddell; his two 2 sisters, Sister Mary Robert Liddell, O.P. and Agnes Greene; as well as his four brothers, David, John, Joseph and James Liddell.
Surviving are his three children; son, Robert of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Margaret Amrhein and her husband, Daniel of Johnstown, PA and Kathleen Mulcahy and her husband, Robert of Wall; as well as his son-in-law, Mike Malleo of Garfield.
In addition, Bob was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, Christopher Malleo and his wife, Ashley, Matthew Malleo and his wife, Kaitlynn and Jacqueline Malleo, Courtney Swartzel and her husband, Brett, Megan Bakkala and her husband, Jason, Brittany Amrhein, Carly Bogden and her husband, Josh, Griffin and Molly Mulcahy; as well as a proud great grandfather of seven; Matthew, AJ, Emilia, Elin. Braxton. Scarlett and Maylen.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. A Funeral Mass will be offered 10:30am on Tuesday at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Spring Lake. Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall. Donations may be made in his name to St. Mary’s High School in Rutherford.
