Obituary for Rose Mary Feeney (Pignatora)

Rose M. (Pignatora) Feeney, 95, of Wall, N.J., died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 1, 2021.

Born in Newark, N.J, she was the daughter of Frank and Rose Pignatora and one of nine children, who were raised on Elm Street in the Ironbound section. Mrs. Feeney graduated from East Side High School, Newark. Upon graduation, she became a secretary at Grammer, Dempsey and Hudson in Newark, where she met her husband, John S. “Jack” Feeney, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2006.

Rose and Jack Feeney were married for 56 years and raised nine children in Middletown, where they lived for more than 40 years, before moving to Wall in 1993. While residing in Wall, she was a communicant of St. Denis.

In Middletown, Mrs. Feeney was a communicant of St. Mary R.C. Church and was active in many parish activities, including the Rosary Altar Society, and in supporting events and organizations at St. Mary School and Mater Dei High School, such as the Parent Teachers Association. A skilled rollerskater, one of her favorite pastimes was monitoring rollerskating parties held many Friday evenings in the parish hall.

The family were longtime members of the Sea Bright Bathing Pavilion, and Mrs. Feeney delighted in taking her children to the beach regularly during the summer months. She was also an avid golfer, and a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club in Brielle, where she played regularly in the women’s nine holers’ group and enjoyed twilight events with her husband.

Mrs. Feeney was predeceased by her parents, several brothers and sisters, and is survived by three siblings, Thomas Pignatora of Toms River, Anna Swider of Beachwood, and Helen Swider of Boca Raton, FL. She leaves behind her children, John S. III (Debbie) Feeney of Myrtle Beach, SC; Patricia (Michael) Papiccio of Wall; Dennis (Janet) Feeney of Middletown; Colleen (Richard Rathemacher) Feeney of Kings Mountain, NC; Kevin (Sharon) Feeney of Peachtree Corners, GA; Pamela (Jamie) D’Anna of Myrtle Beach, SC; Maryellen (Barry) Bowe of Richmond, TX; Christopher (Andrea) Feeney of Charlotte, NC; and Joanne Feeney of Yorba Linda, CA. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, Manasquan followed by burial in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.
