Rose F. (Scerbo) Brancatella, of Brick passed away on February 25, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Marcellinara, Catanzaro, Italy to Ezio and Anita Scerbo. In 1948, she came to the United States of America and settled in Jersey City. In 1956, she married her husband, Benito and moved to Bayonne. The couple moved back to Jersey City before moving to Brick in 1972.
Rose was very active within the Greenbriar II community in Brick. She was involved in numerous clubs and events over her 35 years as a resident including: the R & A Committee, co chairman of the Bingo committee, The Red Hat Club as well as numerous holiday party committees. She also was a very talented Bocce player and enjoyed working with ceramics. Rose was a skilled Mahjong player and played multiple times a week with her dearest friends. She and her husband Ben traveled extensively throughout the world including multiple cruises with their children and grandchildren.
Most of all, Rose was very committed to her own family where she frequently hosted dinners and get togethers with her children and grandchildren. Rose loved her husband and together they created a lifetime of memories. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Rose is survived by her husband of 66 years, Benito J. Brancatella; son, Samuel Brancatella; daughters, Isabella Barberi and her husband, Brian and Anna Maria Ackaway and her husband Steve; four grandchildren, Mark Boggio, Amanda, Steven and Amy Ackaway; one great grandson Vincent Boggio; as well as her sister-in-law Mary Scerbo. She was predeceased by all of her siblings.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday March 1st from 2pm to 7pm at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday March 2nd, 10am at St. Dominic’s RC Church, Brick. Entombment will follow to St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.
