Obituary for Shirin Carrie Harman (Naughton)

Shirin Carrie (Naughton) Harman, 83 of Whiting, NJ and formerly of Brielle, NJ passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, NJ with her beloved family at her side.

Shirin was born in Erie, PA to the late Frederick Gilmore and Dorothy (Bennett) Naughton and had resided in Brielle for 34 years before moving to the Meadows Community of Whiting in 2020.

Shirin graduated from Academy High School in Erie, PA, and graduated Thiel College in Greenville, PA with a BA in Elementary Education. In 1960 she married her college sweetheart, Jim. Shirin was a loving mother and devoted wife for over 61 years. 

Shirin was very creative and made time for her hobbies which included oil, watercolor and tole painting, ceramics, gardening and reading. She looked forward to decorating the home for holidays – especially Christmas. She loved to travel and researched her ancestry while visiting the British Isles as well as eleven other counties in Europe. She was always there to offer support and a hug for her many friends.

As a resident of Point Pleasant, NJ, Shirin was active in the Library Board and her children’s school activities, especially the High School Band.

As a Brielle resident, Shirin was very active in her community as a member and past President of the Women’s Club, the Library Board and the Questers Club. She volunteered and was a former coordinator with South Monmouth Meals on Wheels. Shirin and her husband are devout members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Manasquan, NJ.

Predeceased by her parents, Shirin is survived by her devoted and loving husband James T. Harman, her beloved children James “Jay” N. Harman of Brielle, Andrew F. Harman of Wall, NJ, her daughter Katherine H. Forester of Wayne, PA, her 6 cherished grandchildren Emily Anne, Abigail Caitlin, Shannon Elizabeth, and Caroline “Gracie” Harman, and Matthew James and Andrew Peter Forester, and her brother James G. Naughton of Erie, PA and sister Lynda N. Allen of Fort Atkinson, WI and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Visitation will be at the at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, at which time there will be a Celebration of her Life. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
