Obituary for Theresa A. Fabian (Himmel)

Theresa A. Fabian, 61, of Wall Township, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019.
Theresa was born and raised in the Flushing section of Queens, New York. Predeceased by her parents, Francis Himmel and Kathleen (Daly) Himmel, she was the youngest of their three daughters.
After graduating from Monsignor Scanlan High School in the Bronx and attending CW Post College, Theresa earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree at New York Chiropractic College and practiced for several years in Pompano, Florida and in New York City prior to moving to Chatham, New Jersey to raise her family. She eventually returned to work in the Chatham school system and was especially proud of her work as a paraprofessional with young children with autism and special needs. She retired from her position a year after moving to Wall Township in 2010.
Though having lived in New Jersey for well over thirty years, she cherished her Queens upbringing, often telling stories of family trips to the beaches of Long Island, walking with her sisters to the 1964 New York World’s Fair, or taking the subway into “the city” to attend plays and tour museums as a young girl.
Chatham was always a special place for her as well, where she watched her sons grow and progress, and where she changed careers. She also made lifelong friendships there. She did, however, very much enjoy moving to the Jersey Shore and like most others in the area, could not wait for that first day in April or May when a day at the beach became possible. She was an avid reader and a lover of music, dancing and travel. Theresa was most joyful in the company of family and friends – listening, talking, and laughing. She was extremely proud of her four sons, and considered herself a very fortunate and lucky mom. She loved her parents and her sisters Mary and Kathy deeply, and passed that love on to her husband and children. Theresa set an example as a resilient and brave person to the very end. Her family is grateful for that and will miss her dearly.
Theresa is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Christopher Fabian, and their sons Andrew and his wife Andrea of Haddonfield, NJ, Rory and his fiancée Anna of New York City, Derek of Belmar, NJ, and Luke of New York City. Also surviving are Theresa’s sisters and brothers-in-law Kathleen and Kevin Gill of Sarasota, Florida, and Mary and Dennis Fabian of Short Hills, NJ.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall, NJ on Thursday, December 5, from 4:00-8:00pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Denis Church, Manasquan, NJ, on Friday, December 6, at 10:00am, followed by burial at St. Anne Cemetery in Wall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Theresa’s memory may be made to Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation (tunnel2towers.org). Condolences may be sent via www.obrienfuneralhome.com.
