Obituary for Thomas John Byrne Jr.
Thomas John Byrne, Jr., 80, of Brick passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.
Mr. Byrne was an elementary school teacher for over 38 years in the Newark Board of Education System before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Newark Teacher’s Union. Thomas graduated from St. Bernard College in Cullman, Alabama and received his Masters Degree in Education from William Paterson College in Wayne.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Helen J. (Burns) Byrne; son, Thomas J. Byrne, III of Point Pleasant; daughter, Patricia; and 2 grandchildren Thomas and Patrick Suhl, any many nephews and nieces who love and miss him. He was predeceased by his son in law Jay W. Suhl, and his brother and two sisters in Heaven.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 8:30am -9:30am at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Bunt Tavern Road, Brick. A Funeral Mass will be offered 10am on Monday, February 22, 2021 at The Church of the Epiphany RC Church, 615 Thiele Road, Brick. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either St. Jude Children Research Foundation or Epiphany RC Church Fund.
All indoor gatherings require facial masks and social distancing.
