Obituary for Thomas P. DeCastro

Tom DeCastro, age 83, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Born in Newark, Tom lived in Belleville and was raised in Scotch Plains, where he resided until his retirement, when he settled in Spring Lake Heights for the last 15 years.

Tom started his career as a Police Officer in Scotch Plains, eventually working his way up to the Hudson County Prosecutors Office. He then worked at the Union County Prosecutors Office, where he was an undercover detective, and worked his way up to Commander of the Auto Theft Task force. Tom ultimately worked his way up, and retired as Lieutenant Commander.

Tom was an avid fisherman and hunter, and also enjoyed playing poker. But his greatest joy in life was spending time with his loving family.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Peg DeCastro; his loving children, Michele DeCastro, Michael DeCastro and his wife, Alison, Thomas DeCastro, Margaret Farrell and her husband, Ken and Jennifer DeCastro; his five cherished grandchildren, James, Patrick, Conor, Ryann, and Molly; his sister-in-law, Roseanne McDade and her husband, Joe; his nephews, Joseph, John and Rob McDade.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10:30am at St. Rose RC Church, 603 7th Ave., Belmar, NJ 07719.
