Obituary for Thomas Peter "Tom" Gage

Thomas Peter Gage, 91, of Bay Head and Ridgewood passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.  Tom was born in Paterson and was a lifelong resident of Ridgewood while summering in Bay Head.

After graduating from the University of Vermont with a degree in Agriculture, Tom was a lieutenant in the United States Army.  After receiving his discharge, Tom worked many years first with Texaco and then with Tenneco Oil Company.    He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Bay Head and served as a treasurer and usher within the parish.  He was a member of the Bay Head Yacht Club where he served as a trustee and treasurer. He was an officer of the Bay Head Improvement Association for forty-five years serving the last thirty-three as its president.

Tom was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” Gage in 2016; his son, Peter W. Gage in 1980; his father, Edward J. Gage in 1968, his mother, Lucille Gage in 1986; his brother, Edward J. Gage, Jr. in 1996; and  his son-in-law, James Youngberg in 2021.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Youngberg of Hawthorne; his son, William Gage of Bay Head, his cousin, Jerry Goetting of Wykoff; his grandson, Joseph and wife, Keri of Glen Rock, his grandson, Peter of Hawthorne; as well as his 8 great grandchildren, Bryan, Grace, Brayden, Connor, Brendan, Leah, Brianna and Brynley Joy. 

Visiting will be on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 3-7pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick.  A funeral Mass will be offered 10am on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Sacred Heart RC Church, 751 Main Avenue, Bay Head.  Burial will be private at the family plot in Valleau Cemetery, 660 Glen Avenue, Ridgewood.
