Obituary for Thomas Joseph Geiger

Thomas J. Geiger, 84, of Wall Township, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 10, 2020 with his beloved wife Helen at his side.
As a lifelong resident of NJ, he was born in Irvington and grew up in Roselle and Roselle Park, and summered in Avon-by-the-Sea where his family owned The Sylvan Hotel.
Tom was an avid fisherman and enjoyed boating and spending time near the ocean with his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, brother and uncle. Tom was predeceased by his infant son Thomas, parents Edgar and Helen Geiger Sr., brothers Edgar and Robert and his sister Lois. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Helen S. Murray Geiger, his devoted daughters and their spouses Susan and Richard Foley of Westford, MA and Jennifer and John Lyman of Wall Township, NJ and his much-loved grandchildren Connor, Cara, Jack, Matthew and Grace.
Tom was a man of great faith, which carried him throughout his life. He volunteered countless hours of service through his faith community and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and NJ Jaycees.
Tom was a graduate of St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark and then continued his education at Niagara University. He served proudly in the U.S. Army National Guard and had a successful career as a salesman for Sysco, Ritter Foods, Burroughs Corporation, and Thomas & Betts.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions at the time of Tom’s passing, his funeral arrangements were delayed. Tom’s wife Helen passed away on June 23, 2020. Visitation for Tom and Helen will be held at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 5-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in celebration of both their lives at St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, 3rd & Ludlow Aves., Spring Lake, on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 10:30 am. Please go directly to the Church as there will not be a procession from the funeral home.
